AIS Invests in Tier 1 Peering
At the AIS Data Centers One Wilshire Point of Presence (OWPOP) in Los Angeles we have installed optical switches and routers to provide highly redundant peering and transit connectivity for our customers.
Over 70 IPv4 and IPv6 private peering connections provide direct network connectivity with large domestic content and subscriber networks such as Pandora and Microsoft as well as global content providers, such as Akamai Europe and Singapore Telecom.
AIS backbone connectivity in our SSAE 16 compliant, SOC 1, 2, and 3 audited One Wilshire includes AT&T, Global Crossing, and Sprint – which is more than enough to provide complete backup for AIS transit requirements.
All of this peering and transit access is delivered across the AIS private and redundant 10Gbps (OC-192) connections to separate San Diego facilities, thereby maximizing global network performance across the entire AIS network.

An agreement by two or more networks to peer is instantiated by a physical interconnection of the networks, an exchange of routing information through the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing protocol and, in one case out of every two hundred agreements, a formalized contractual document.
Marketing pressures have led to the word “peering” sometimes being used to intentionally mislead when there is some settlement involved. In the face of such ambiguity, the phrase “settlement-free peering” is sometimes used to explicitly denote pure cost-free peering.”
