Ken Carter, Vice President Data Center Operations for American Internet Services (AIS) Wins San Diego Business Journal’s IT Executive of the Year Award
SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 24, 2012 – American Internet Services (AIS), a leading provider of enterprise-class data center, cloud and connectivity services in the western United States, today announced its vice president of data center operations, Ken Carter, won the San Diego Business Journal IT Executive of the Year award in the small private company division. Carter, a professionally certified data center design electro-mechanical engineer, is responsible for the continuous reliability, availability and productivity – the forte of uptime – for the AIS data centers. He is currently spearheading the company’s power distribution systems expansion design configured (“2N” design) at 6.1 MW of mission critical production load capacity.
“Ken is a key member of our leadership team at AIS with a tremendous amount of know-how when it comes to data center design stemming from his work for LexisNexis and Fidelity Information Services,” said Tim Caulfield, chief executive officer at AIS. “By re-engineering our data centers, Ken has been instrumental in helping AIS transition from being a local small start up, to a provider of top-of-the-line, enterprise-class data center services.”
There were 43 finalists for the San Diego Business Journal’s 5th Annual Information Technology Executive of the Year Awards, which were handed out during a reception held at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on April 19, 2012.
“While the San Diego Business Journal designated me as their award-winner, I feel this honor should be shared with the entire AIS team,” said Carter. “I look forward to leading the next phase of expansion, as well as the system design upgrade for the enterprise level emergency stand-by power distribution.”
The next phase of the AIS power distribution expansion will include (4) additional engine generators paralleled with the existing (8) engine generators to provide 5.4 MW of onsite generation at N+2 to accommodate future growth.
Carter is also working on matching the power distribution system end-state design with a modular mechanical plant environmental systems expansion to provide a “2N” configured and paralleled chilled water system.
