American Internet Services (AIS) Celebrates the Arrival of Callaway Golf to its Enterprise-Class Data Center
The AIS Lightwave facility provides reliability, redundancy, security and room for growth
SAN DIEGO, Calif., October 3, 2011 – American Internet Services (AIS), a leading provider of enterprise-class data center and connectivity services in the western United States, today announced that the Callaway Golf Company (Callaway), who manufactures and sells golf clubs and golf balls, and sells golf apparel, footwear and accessories, under the Callaway Golf®, Odyssey®, Top-Flite®, and Ben Hogan® brands in more than 110 countries worldwide, has recently completed its move into the AIS Enterprise-Class, Lightwave Data Center. Located 30 miles south of their corporate headquarters, AIS provides Callaway with reliability, redundancy, security and room for growth along with fixed costs for easier budgeting.
“We had reached a critical point with our IT infrastructure where we had to make a decision on expanding our current facility or partnering with an enterprise-level data center,” said Chris Rousseau, Callaway’s SVP Global Information Technology. “We were impressed with the Lightwave facility, the policies and procedures AIS has in place, like its ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) service architecture, and its knowledgeable staff. We feel AIS has mapped out a solid solution that can expand to meet our future business needs.”
Callaway reached out to AIS with a very common IT infrastructure scenario: whether to expand internally or partner externally. During their evaluation period, they gave AIS an opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities.
“What Callaway needed fit right in our proverbial wheelhouse,” said Tim Caulfield, chief executive officer at AIS. “We felt we could offer them the means for controlling their operating and capital expenditure costs while delivering a bullet proof solution that has high-availability at its core.”
To ensure the transition was seamless, Callaway’s IT team and the AIS ProServices team spent 8-months planning the move to the Lightwave facility which took place over the Labor Day weekend.
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Callaway throughout the decision making and move-in process,” said Caulfield. “We look forward to providing enterprise-class data center services with a personal touch that will allow them to focus their energies on creating products and services designed to make every golfer a better golfer.”
Availability & Redundancy Put to the Test – The San Diego Power Outage
The massive power outage that hit the Southern California occurred right after Callaway moved to the Lightwave Data Center facility. Lightwave’s redundant UPS power plants, backed by dual generators ensured Callaway was not impacted.
“The power outage was indeed a true test of their emergency plans and backup systems,” said Callaway’s Chris Rousseau. “The fact that it was a non-event for our business systems reinforces that we made the right choice in selecting AIS which has the highest levels of redundancy to ensure our IT infrastructure is always available.”
